RunnerUp Comedy Troupe

...Laugh, won't you?

History of RunnerUp!

Winona State University was founded in 1858. One hundred and fifty-one years later it got funny when RunnerUp Comedy Troupe was formed, Winona's best, and only, source of improv
It all started in the fall of 2007 when a visionary named Brian Rice was leading a night of improv in the basement of the dining hall and realized that these were some talented people. So
he decided to start an improv group with people he thought were funny and in 2009 RunnerUpofficially became a club.
The original members were: Brian Rice, Jake Larson, Teresa Sigler, Eileen Moeller, Caitlin Puckett, Jake Wagner,  Joe Underbakke, and Katie Steger.

RunnerUp Today!

Today RunnerUp specializes in improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy. We hold rehearsals twice a week, perform twice a month, and have two larger-scale shows a semester. On top of that we hold workshops for the community and WSU students to come and improve their improv skills.

Of our current members we have one who has taught improv to teens and many others who have taken classes with Brave New Workshop. We have worked with TJ Miller and Upright Citizen's Brigade Touring Company. Our alumni have gone on to work with Brave New Workshop and Upright Citizen's Brigade NYC.

We are always looking to expand our knowledge and experiences in the hopes that it will benefit us as performers, people, and citizens of the world!
